OTTAWA, ON, November 2, 2022 – As of today, The Canadian Marine Industry Foundation (“CMIF”) has officially changed its name to the Canadian Marine Careers Foundation ("CMCF").
The new title better reflects the organization’s overall mission to promote the diversity of careers within Canada’s marine sector. Replacing the word “industry” with “careers” widens recognition of the foundation’s focus on both the commercial marine sector and marine career opportunities within the public sector.
The Imagine Marine brand and digital outreach campaign, which has been operating since 2020, will continue and remain unchanged.
An update on our recent and upcoming activities:
- The CMCF is preparing a marine educational materials outreach package based on our English & French consultations with industry partners, guidance counsellors, and teachers. This print and digital mix of interactive, neutral content will be available for use across a variety of activities to give young people and second career seekers a taste of why they should be choosing marine. This project is sponsored by our member the Chamber of Marine Commerce.
- We’re very excited to announce the upcoming Blog addition to the imagine-marine.ca website! The new Imagine Marine blog will feature informative career and marine-focused articles, news updates, and interviews. Stay tuned for more details as this project evolves
- Our Imagine Marine “day-in the life” careers videos and Q&A series continues. Each interview (produced in both English and French) tells one person’s career story while highlighting the rich diversity of marine opportunities. The 10 videos, promoted on our social media channels, have already reached audiences in the tens of thousands. Explore them all here.
- We’re getting the word out there! Social media promotion of our careers content and one-stop marine careers portal has been seen by our targeted audiences over 1,300,000 times since April of this year.

The Canadian Marine Careers Foundation (CMCF) was established in 2019 to bring together private sector employers, unions, educational institutions, and key public sector partners with maritime responsibilities, to jointly promote careers in Canada’s marine sector. Through its Imagine Marine campaign, the CMCF is reaching out to raise awareness of Canadian seagoing and shore-based job opportunities in the marine sector for young people, second career seekers, new citizens and equity-deserving groups.
