The CMCF has a Code of Conduct that is intended to guide the conduct of employees as well as the board of directors, committee members and business partners in the transaction of the organization’s business. It affirms the commitment of the CMCF to uphold the highest ethical standards and to act in a manner that will bear the closest scrutiny, inspire trust and enhance the CMCF’s reputation for honesty, integrity, transparency and the faithful performance of undertakings and obligations.
Advocacy & Lobbying Activity
CMCF does not endorse or promote any polices or positions adopted by individual CMCF members. CMCF members should not reference CMCF in relation to any of their advocacy positions.
Individual CMCF member positions on labour-related negotiations and agreements should not be discussed during CMCF meetings.
Communications CMCF members must afford CMCF the opportunity to review and approve in advance any media releases where CMCF is referenced. This includes any reference to being a member of the CMCF when a media release may refer substantially to another subject.
Competition Law The CMCF believes in fair competition for all business in the marine transportation sector. It is the policy of the CMCF to comply with all applicable legal requirements, including applicable competition laws.
The thrust of competition laws is to maintain and encourage competition in the marketplace and, as a result, to prohibit any act or agreement that might lessen competition.
CMCF is a forum for members to exchange information and views on the workforce-related matters within the marine sector. Any activity that the CMCF conducts that might have a result of lessening competition or perceived as such should be carefully scrutinized.
CMCF members, directors, officers and staff shall not enter into any discussion, activity or conduct (in general and at committee meetings) that may infringe, on its part or on the part of its members, any applicable competition law. By way of example, members shall not discuss, communicate or exchange any commercially sensitive information, including information relating to prices, costs and revenues, trading terms and conditions with third parties, including labour-related agreements, purchasing strategy, terms of supply, trade programs, or distribution strategy.
It is the responsibility of each CMCF member to comply with competition law relying on their own legal advice; it is NOT the responsibility of the CMCF or its staff to ensure that its members comply with competition law in their own activities.
