The British Columbia Coast Pilots Join the Canadian Marine Careers Foundation

The Canadian Marine Careers Foundation is pleased to announce that the British Columbia Coast Pilots (BC Coast Pilots) has now joined as the Foundation's latest member. This partnership underscores the importance of working with various partners across the country in tackling the marine labour and skills shortages facing Canada’s vast marine sector.
BC Coast Pilots’ participation will help promote marine pilotage as a career, including the required qualifications and pathways to succeed in this profession.

As licensed marine pilots, they use their expert knowledge of local waterways, tides, and hazards to ensure the safe and efficient movement of vessels, protecting both the marine environment and coastal communities. Marine pilotage is considered the pinnacle of a mariner’s career, requiring years of experience at sea to develop the ship-handling expertise and local knowledge essential for navigating the complex B.C. coast. The BC Coast Pilots are actively working to raise awareness about the qualifications and career path required to enter do the job. Through outreach, education, and partnerships with industry and training institutions, we aim to inform and inspire the next generation of pilots to help keep our coast safe and navigable for years to come.
